A True Test of Will Power

It's Friday!

However, with the weekend, comes super difficult food challenges.

Tonight, I am going out with a bunch of old friends, and these friends like to drink. In the past, I have gone out with them before and used my weekly points, but tonight, I am sticking to under 29 points (and this has to include wine)!

I have budgeted for 10 points worth of wine, but that only leaves 19 points for food *sigh* AND, I have got to make sure that those 19 points are smart foods - meaning that they are full of nutrients and will support my body (especially if I'll be drinking 6 glasses of wine!).

Having said that, I have already looked up the menu of the place we'll be going to, and will be getting the beet salad with no goat cheese or pine nuts and dressing on the side. I am also planning on having a late lunch with hopes that it will tie me over until 7pm, which is when I expect to eat this salad.

You know, it is really difficult to be different from the pack. I expect all my friends will be eating pizza and pasta, brie cheese and spinach dip, and I'll be sitting there nibbling on my beets and lettuce.

Now, I used to look at this situation and be a little depressed, thinking "woe is me" and "it's not fair!", but I don't think about it like this any more.

By eating this way and being different from the pack, I am giving myself a gift (can you say cheesy?) I really am, because when I wake up the next morning, I will still have participated in the activities of the night, I will have had lots to drink - but I won't be suffering from poor food choices.

It's November 5th - we are 1/6 of the way through the month and I have totally rocked my eating goals. I WANT to see 160-something on that scale on Sunday so bad it's not even funny. I cannot let a piece of pizza or a plate of pasta bring me down - I just can't.

  1. Hey Lisa,
Good luck :) I know how hard it can be to follow the points you always have such determination and a positive attitude. You should be very proud of yourself. I hope you see the 160s soon!

  2. I read fairly well, and fairly quickly. I also went to all of the grades. I read this post three times, and I have the question, now that I am sure I read it correctly. Kinda thinking I might have to call the Betty Ford Clinic. Six (6) glasses of wine ? Splain that Lucy..

  3. Yuppers - you read it correctly - 6! 6X 8oz glasses spread out over 5 or 6 hours... it's like 1 glass / hour... that ain't too bad right?

  4. Lisa, that's 910 calories of wine, and close to being an alcoholic... There is no fiber in wine. 17 points and not a great idea because of the sugar alcohols... Stop !!

  5. Just keep reminding yourself that being in the 160s is better than pizza or pasta and maybe 6 glasses of wine (seems a lot but i dont drink so even 1 seems a lot to me!) especially as you've worked your arse off to get down to the weight you are currently. Remember, on March 1st, you were 233lbs. Now you are one night away from potentially cementing yourself in the 160s. You can do it! :)

  6. hummm... re-evaluating my idea to have 6 glasses (a good reminder: everything in balance). I may cut it down to 3 or 4 glasses and have goat cheese on my salad instead.

PS - having 6 glasses of wine does NOT make you an alcoholic!

  8. LOL. I had lunch & alcohol with a friend at lunch time and then a special dinner (with alcohol) in the evening. ugh, have gone over my points by 6! Ack. But that's 6 points for the whole week. Not good but could have been worse if I'd given in to my Snickers temptation. Hehe. Hope you make good decisions & stay within your points. X

  9. Good luck with that! When I go out to eat with my friends I always have those good intentions to eat super healthy and it never fails, I crack and eat the worst thing on the damn menu!!!! EEK! So if you can stick to that, more power to ya girl!

  10. For the record, "make you an alcoholic" is am attempt at humor in the face of a difficult situation. 6 glasses, at 8 ounces per glass, is 2 bottles of wine. Before you tell me that this is okay, ask around a bit. Ask your parents if it is okay to drink two bottles of wine in 5 hours or so. If you are all in agreement, then what I say is not relevant. No harm intended.
