High School Memories and Rising Above Them!

This morning, I got on the bus to go to work at 6:30 am, only to find myself sitting beside a guy I went to school with (back in the 1990's!)

Now, this guy didn't remember me - but I sure remember him.

We were in Career Planning 9, and I had the pleasure of sitting next to him in class, we were mapping out options for different career paths. Note: in grade 9 I probably weighed about 150 lbs, I was very athletic (a swimmer and a runner) and was a bigger build than most of the other girls.

I mentioned that I was considering being a personal trainer.

This guy looked at me and *burst* out laughing and then turned to one of his other friends, whispered to him - letting him know that "the fat chick" wants to be a personal trainer, and then his friend burst out laughing.

There I was, in grade 9 (150 lbs) sitting in my chair, being laughed at for expressing my interest in being a personal trainer when I grow up.

This memory is on my top 10 list of worst weight-related memories from my youth.

I look back now and think to myself, 1.) this guy was a total douche and 2.) boys will be boys.

I debated saying something to him on the bus, but then came to the decision that I would rather leave the past in the past. I am better than that, I rise above.

But still, guys can be such douche bags sometimes - you know?

On the plus side, I look amazing today.

Have I mentioned that I have lost 60 lbs since March?

Well, I can now wear a button dress shirt, and I look incredible in it!

Cheers to rising above the douche bags of the world and looking great:

  2. Bravo for leaving the past in the past! I had a similar situation where there was a boy in my 6th grade class who teased me about my weight. I ended up being his RA in college. I let the past go and became friends with his adult self (well, more adult self.)

I read a sign the other day that said "Forgive your enemies, it messes with their heads." Keep rocking your button down shirts! :)

    Happy Thursday!

I'm hoping he did remember you, but was too mortified to say anything.
