July Goals: Summary!

Wow, I can't believe that July is over already - time to buy a new month's pass at the gym!

So, let's see how I did on my July goals.... errr... I don't think this is going to be good.

JULY GOALS 2010

1.) Break out of the 180's and get to 175 lbs:
DIDN'T REACH 175... BUT WILL HAVE THE OFFICIAL WEIGH IN RESULTS TOMORROW TO POST. EXPECTING (AKA "HOPING FOR" 179 AT LEAST)

2.) Fit comfortably into my size-12 black dress pants.
THEY FIT! BUT UNFORTUNATELY GIVE ME THE "MUFFIN TOP"

3.) Be able to run without stopping at a speed of 5.5 on the treadmill for 10 full minutes.
FAIL

4.) Be able to do 2.5 miles on the treadmill in under 30 minutes.
- July 17th - did 2.5 miles in 40 minutes... uh oh...
NOPE! CARRY OVER INTO AUGUST!

5.) Do yoga at the rec centre at least 5X this month:
Class #1: July 15th - 1 hr
Class #2: July 19th - 1 hr
Class #3: July 22nd - 1 hr
Class #4: July 29th - 1 hr

ONLY 4 CLASSES - BOO TO ME FOR GETTING A LATE START ON THIS!

Reward for Completing All Goals:
NEW RUNNING SHOES!

NO SHOES DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DIDN'T REACH ANY OF MY GOALS- NOT EVEN 1!

Lets hope next months goals go much better than this month's went!

Slump

Yikes! I am in a bit of a slump over here. Today, not only did I not exercise (like this entire last week), I also did not stay on plan (weight-watchers wise). I've been a bad girl - even had some cream cheese today. Where did my discipline go? Well, wherever it went, I need to find it again!

If you've seen my discipline anywhere in virtual space, please send me an email and let me know. I need to find it!

Tomorrow - I am committing myself to doing (at the very least) a one hour walk outside (the beach perhaps).

Really want to get into the 170's at weigh in tomorrow. Hopefully this off-track stint won't prohibit from me from achieving this.

More to come tomorrow...

Taking Some Good Advice

While reading through my favourite blogs a couple days ago, I came across this post by Once Upon a Time... In the Land of Cheese and Sunkist, in particular, #14 on her list:

"14. What you give, comes back to you. What you take...that comes back as well. Make sure you give more than you take."

Now, I have heard this a million times in many different contexts, but sitting on my computer reading it a few short days ago, it triggered an "ah ha" moment for me.

See, I have felt like quite the martyr lately - "woe it me", "why does this shiet always happen to me".... Well, duh Lisa - you get what you put in. And frankly, I really have been all about me this last little while - no wonder the universe is throwing me all sorts of shiet bags.

I've honestly been thinking about this over the last couple days after reading this post and it's made me want to make a change in my attitude. While still focusing on me (because you can't help anyone unless you help yourself first), I want to start making a conscious effort to genuinely give a lot more, to friends, family, strangers, fellow bloggers, and the like.

I have to consciously put this mentality at the forefront of my brain and thoughts. Also, I do want to leave this world having contributed more than I took.

Furthermore, at Yoga tonight - the instructor did this neat little visualization activity - stating that if we have a positive attitude in our hearts and in our souls, that positive attitude will spew over into our conscious and unconscious actions.

These are two related pieces of advice/ ways of living that I I feel I need to embrace in life - to be a better person, and, as karma would have it, to live a better, more rewarding life.

Just Call Me Anna Kournikova

That's right friends! I've been a regular at the tennis courts lately - let me tell you, tennis is a great workout and has been a great break from my regular gym routine. There are tennis courts right near my house, so I've been dragging a friend along lots and i've been practicing my serves and grunts. I think tennis is, in part, what I should be thanking for the new definition that's been appearing in my arms. Check out my blog post from yesterday and take a look at those before and after photos! I can really see a difference in my arms - no doubt both the tennis and the yoga have played a part in that.

Just want to brag a little here: Today I felt "fit", I mean, I was speed walking up hills and reaching for those tennis balls (and hitting them). I now feel comfortable classifying myself as "athletic" - and it feels good!

Now, if only my body looked like Anna Kournikova's... I'm getting there.... I'm getting there....

I'm Shrinking!

Back in June, I did a before and after post and said that I would post another "after" picture when I got to around 180lbs... Well, here I am at 180 lbs. So, As promised:

Here I am at approximately 200 lbs:

Then at approximately 190 lbs:

Now at approximately 180 lbs:

I can really see the difference now - what a difference 20 lbs makes on my body! Crazy!

Walk It Off Lisa!

Finally! I broke the funk I've been in - I went out and did some cardio and got my sweat on! My body loved it - I feel great again. It's hard to describe, but I always feel "fresh" after a cardio workout. I just love the feeling.

Managed to do a 5 mile walk in 1 hour 45 minutes with a good friend along the waterfront and climb some pretty steep hills on the way back (awesome). I convinced her to go to Yoga with me on Thursday night, which is good, because I am starting to love yoga again!

See, the Peddy don't lie:

(Thank you Fat Girl vs. World: no more backwards photos here!)

After I got home from my super long walk, I concluded that this post-workout feeling is better than any feeling that stuffing my face with any kind of food would give me. I'm still very angry at myself for letting myself get that much out of control, that obese, that fat! I would literally binge until I could no longer eat. Then I would get horribly sick, and 1/4 of the time it would result in me throwing up - either from being too full, or I had managed to poison myself. This sounds really twisted, I realize that - but a short 5 months ago, this was me.

I love that I've embraced this new lifestyle and have begun to put myself first in life. I know I can't change the past - but I spent most of my 25 years overweight or obese. Why did it take me so long to snap out of it and take control of my life? I still cannot figure out why it was that I did this to myself - why did I binge and over-eat? What underlying psychological problem lead me to this? I would consider myself a fairly strong individual / personality, I didn't choose to lose weight so that I could "find myself" or figure out the "real me". I already know who I am and really like the person I've turned out to be in life. So why then did I torture myself with food.

Still a mystery to me. Waiting for that "ah ha" moment to strike...

New Breakfast / Chili Recipe

You want to know what's weird, for the last three weeks I have busy like a mo fo, and now that my life has resumed at a normal pace, I find that I've gotten lazy. Take, for example, last night. I could of easily gone to the gym and put in a cardio workout - but instead I sat on the couch and watched TV - like - seriously - what's up with that. I seriously need to give myself a much needed kick in the pants to get up and get moving! It's almost like I feel like "I deserve a break" from fitness after my 3-week long intensive course (during which I did make the time to workout) - again, here I am playing the victim card with myself. Oh internal struggles, when will I grow out of this!

So, that explains the no post from last night - I was too busy sitting on my fat arse watching the tube!

New day - new attitude - right?

So, lately, I've really taken to having these Greek yogurt / honey / granola parfaits from Starbucks for breakfast:

Yum, these are good - a little high in points (6 Weight Watcher points) - but they are tasty, they keep me full all morning and I can pick it up on the way to work. For me, thats a 3/3. Not something I would eat every morning, as they do have a lot of fat, but it's something I would classify as a special "treat" breakfast.

Now, what you've all been waiting for - the Chili recipe.

I have to admit, I don't make this myself, this is something my boyfriend makes for us all the time (you should know - I DON'T COOK)

So, I pleaded with him - telling him, "PLEASE MY READERS ARE ON A "NEED TO KNOW" BASIS HERE"

And this is what he told me:

1 can mexi-stewed tomatoes
1 can Heinz chili beans
1 package of old el paso chili seasoning
1 can of chick peas
A boat load of mushrooms (not necessary - but we LOVE mushrooms)
1 chopped red pepper
1 chopped green pepper
1/2 white onion
3 cloves garlic
Franks Hot Sauce (to taste - we like it HOT)
1 package of extra lean ground turkey meat

Brown the turkey in wok, then add the seasoning to cover the meat - then dump everything in there, let stew for about 2 and 1/2 hours on medium heat.

Then - add non-fat plain greek yogurt on top (of your individual bowl for serving) - oh yum - those of you who like Mexican out there will rejoice when you eat this! Plus - there's so much food here that we eat it for days. Cook once - eat three times!

Happy cooking all!
